A New York woman deliberately drove her SUV onto a Brooklyn sidewalk, killed a 70 year-old woman and stood laughing as her victim died, it is claimed.
Layla Adredini, 30, was driving her Ford Explorer in Brownsville near Thomas Boyland and Pacific streets at around 8.30pm on August 24 when she struck 70-year-old Brenda Whidbee who was sitting on the steps of her apartment building, it is alleged. Adredini was charged with murder on Wednesday.
A 50-year-old man, who remains unidentified, was also hit as a result of the crash only suffered minor injuries, and had left by the time police had arrived.
Adredine is said to have deliberately driven the SUV at that man, only to miss her intended target and instead hit Whidbee.
Adredini allegedly attempted to hide in nearby building but was caught by neighbors who then turned her over to the police, and is said to have laughed as Whidbee lay dying just feet away.
'She (Adredini) was in the building smiling, laughing about it while this lady was down here dying with her grandkids outside, her daughter outside,' neighbor Joyce Harden told News 12 Brooklyn.
'The lady (Whidbee) was dying on the ground and her kids were outside watching.'

Adredini jumped the curb and struck Whidbee, who sustained severe head trauma, and the male pedestrian only escaped with a minor injury after the vehicle ran over his foot
She also allegedly showed no remorse for her actions and never took her foot of the gas pedal before hitting Whidbee and the other man, who police believe may have been Adredini's original target.
Police charged Adredini with murder and attempted murder after her arrest on Wednesday and is being held without bail. She also has nine prior arrest charges.
Whidbee was taken to Brookdale Hospital when emergency crews arrived to the scene as she was suffering from severe head trauma. She was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Her death was ruled as a homicide on Tuesday.
The man that was hit only faced sustained a minor injury after his foot was ran over by Adredini, according to police.
Neighbors mourn the loss of Whidbee who they considered to be the 'pillar' of the neighborhood.

The investigation remains ongoing as Adredini's motive behind the alleged murder is still being determined.
NYC has seen similar incidents throughout the past few weeks in relation to hit-and-run drivers.
Tyrik Mott, 28, was arrested on Saturday after he allegedly caused a deadly collision on in Brooklyn that killed a three-month-old baby.
Mott was driving down the wrong direction of a Clinton Hill street before crashing into another vehicle going the opposite way which then careened into the baby girl and her family.
He was arraigned on Sunday at Brooklyn Criminal Court with charges of attempted robbery, grand larceny, and resisting charges.
He was ordered held on $100,000 cash bail or $200,000 partially secured bond.
