U.S marine, 20, is found dead in apparent suicide while on duty at barracks in Washington DC

 A 20-year-old U.S marine was found dead Tuesday while on duty at a barracks in Washington, D.C, in what police are treating as a suicide.

Lance Corporal Andrew J. Arista of Garden Grove, California, was found dead at approximately 2:45 a.m. at the Marine Barracks 8th and I's Annex location in Navy Yard, where he served as a Squad Leader for Guard Company. 

When the Metropolitan Police Department arrived on scene, they witnessed CPR being administered to Arista. The marine succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on scene at 3:07am, according to a police report. 

While DC Police did not confirm how Arista died, a M4 colt carbine was seized at the scene as evidence, according to the report.

DC Police are currently investigating the incident and believe there was no foul play involved.  

Marine Barracks Washington assures local residents there is no threat as the incident occurred within the grounds of the barracks. 

'The command is making every effort to take care of those involved at this time,' a press release stated. 

Arisita's medals include the National Defense Service Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
