As most people know by now Senator Rand Paul and Dr. Anthony Fauci got into a heated exchange yesterday in which Fauci called Rand Paul a “liar” for claiming the NIH funded gain of function experiments at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

The reaction to Fauci’s outburst is pretty much as you would expect. Mainstream media outlets praise Fauci for standing up to Paul, while conservative news outlets express outrage that Fauci would call a sitting US Senator who was also a medical doctor a “liar.”

Well now Senator Paul is hitting back saying he is going to ask the DOJ for a criminal referral against Dr. Fauci for contempt of Congress.

During an interview on Hannity the host asked Senator Paul, “You kicked off your questioning of Dr. Fauci emphasizing that federal law makes lying to Congress a felony punishable up to five years in prison. Is it your belief, based on the evidence, senator, that he lied before Congress and broke the law?”

“Yes, and I will be sending a letter to Department of Justice asking for a criminal referral because he has lied to Congress,” Paul replied. “We have scientists that will line up by the dozens to say that the research he was funding was gain of function.”

“He is doing this because he has a self-interest to cover his tracks and to cover his connection to Wuhan lab. Now, does he deserve all the blame? No, there’s still some conjecture as to whether or not it came from the lab. But he is lying about whether or not he funded gain of function research, and yes, he should be punished.”

We agree with Senator Paul that Fauci crossed the line and should be punished for lying to Congress and for contempt of Congress as well.

Paul is not the only one al=appalled by Fauci’s outburst. During an interview with Brian Kilmeade Brett Giroir, former four-star Admiral in the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, gave his take on the Fauci / Rand Paul exchange from the perspective of someone who has had to sit through similar hearings.

“It was a concerning exchange and I do believe probably Dr. Fauci was hiding behind a technical definitions of what the NIH might consider, quote, gain of function research. What they did fund was exactly what Rand Paul said,” Giroir said.

“They funded researchers to go in the hundreds of miles away into the back of bat caves, extract dangerous viruses from bats that have never been seen by humans before, and bring them to a city of 10 million people in the Wuhan lab.”

“Next, they chopped up those viruses and created new Frankenstein viruses to see if they could infect human cells. That that may not technically be quote gain of function research but it’s dangerous research and senator Paul’s questions deserve to be answered.”

Admiral Giroir is right. Senator Paul’s questions deserve to be answered.
