EXCLUSIVE: Kevin McCarthy’s Office Responds To Tucker Carlson Segment About Price Of Room He Rents From Frank Luntz

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s office responded to a segment that Fox News host Tucker Carlson ran on Monday night about an apartment that McCarthy rents from pollster Frank Luntz.

Carlson noted that a spokesperson for McCarthy said that he pays “a fair market price” for the space that he rents. Carlson suggested that a fair market price for an apartment like Luntz’s would be approximately $5,000 given its size and neighborhood that its located in.

“So the question is, is Kevin McCarthy paying $5,000 every month to Frank Luntz to live in his house? We would love to know the answer,” Carlson said. “We asked several times of his office and no one got back to us with an answer. If Kevin McCarthy isn’t paying market price, he is likely violating House Ethics rules on taking gifts. And someday we have no doubt we will find out exactly what he is paying.”

A spokesperson for McCarthy told The Daily Wire exclusively on Tuesday afternoon that McCarthy rents a room from Luntz and that he pays slightly above what the going rate is for similar sized spaces in the area.

The spokesperson said, “McCarthy rented a room of approximately 400 square feet, and under House Ethics guidelines, calculated the fair market amount at $1,500/month by comparing what other members of Congress were also paying to live in the building and additional comparables for the space in the building and neighborhood.”

A brief review of similar sized spaces in the area and in the building show that the recent average price per square foot was approximately $3. McCarthy pays $3.75 per square foot for the room that he rents from Luntz.
