Former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany has taken a swipe at her successor for being out of the loop with Joe Biden when taking questions.

McEnany reacted to a 'Fox & Friends' montage of Jen Psaki telling various reporters that she would 'circle back' on their questions during her six weeks with the Biden administration.

The former press secretary said she would always know where former President Donald Trump stood on an issue due to the 'hours and hours' of research that went in beforehand.

McEnany served as the 33rd White House press secretary for the Trump administration from April 2020 to January 2021.

She has since joined Fox News as a political commentator.

Speaking during an interview with Fox News, she said: 'I wish Jen Psaki all the best, it is a very hard job but that being said, we took great pains in our administration to do hours and hours of research beforehand, days sometimes.'

She suggested that she had been granted 'walk-in' privileges when serving as Trump's press secretary, which had given her a greater advantage.

'I always knew where my boss stood. Unlike other press secretaries who maybe didn't have walk-in privileges, I could walk in at any time...

'I always knew where his head was at, so I didn't have to a ton of circling back because President Trump gave a lot of access to me.'

McEnany also criticised Biden's lack of solo public appearances as the US President has gone 44 days without holding his own press conference.

Biden has answered questions from reporters briefly before boarding the presidential aircraft and when he made statements about the coronavirus and other matters.

In comparison Trump took questions 27 days into the job while Barack Obama held one 20 days after his inauguration.

'It's exactly like the campaign. That was his strategy all along,' she told Fox News.

'Hide in the basement, don't talk to the American people ... That's what President Trump offered.

'He gave transparency. He was always willing to take questions, always willing to go to the podium, always willing to stop on his way to the helicopter.

'Transparency is what he offered, and Joe Biden vowed transparency. Now he's set a 100-year record for not going to the podium.'
