The couple do have a third child, a son, who was not home during the incident.

No motive for the incident has been revealed, although Naomi Bell does allegedly suffer from mental illness.

The shooting happened around 7pm on Friday night at Bell's house, located on Main Street in Plymouth, Connecticut.

A 911 call came from inside the house and when police arrived, two juveniles were found to be seriously injured.

The high school-aged daughter was pronounced dead, while the elementary school-aged son was taken to Connecticut Children’s Hospital in critical condition.

'The investigation is still ongoing, and the scene is still very active, and as we get more information, we will release it,' said state police spokeswoman Christine Jeltema.

The superintendent of the school district that taught the children sent a note to parents on Saturday, informing them of the tragedy and announcing counseling would be available over the weekend and on Monday when school resumed.

'I'm so sad to hear that somebody's had a loss like this,' neighbor Cynthia Lamar told FOX61

Bell is being held at Niantic Correctional Center on $2.5 million bond ahead of her arraignment, which will take place on Monday.

In addition to being charged with murder, Bell has also been charged with attempted murder owing to her son's injuries.

If convicted, Bell could face life in prison.
