 Former NFL star Herschel Walker has blasted celebrities who claim black people are oppressed in the US.

The athlete, 58, shared a video on Twitter in support of President Trump in which he pointed to his own story after growing up as a 'poor black kid from South Georgia' who went on to represent his country in the Olympics.

Walker, who competed in the 1992 Winter Olympics as part of the US bobsleigh team, finishing seventh, said it was one of his greatest honors.

In the video, the prominent Trump supporter said: 'I started thinking this poor Black kid from South Georgia got a chance to represent the United States of America.

'I've been hearing from a lot of people saying, 'we're oppressed'. Well I'm here to tell you, you're not.


'So, all the entertainers all the athletes out there that are telling these people, we African Americans are oppressed, well, we're not. We can do whatever we want to do.'

'Being at the Olympics, I saw so many other countries had envy of the United States of America.'

The College Hall of Famer then urged his followers to vote for Donald Trump in the upcoming election.

He said: 'We're the greatest country in the world so remember when you go to that voting booth, remember the American way.

'Freedom of speech, freedom of religion, so many freedoms that we have.' 

'So, vote for Donald Trump. Vote for a Republican. Because I'm telling you, let's not throw our country away. Let's vote for those freedoms we have in the United States of America.'

Walker is a prominent Republican who backed Trump in 2016 as well as the current election, and the real estate owned his then team the New Jersey Generals (pictured together in 1983)

The star also tagged Donald Trump in the video. 

Walker is a prominent Republican who backed Trump in 2016 as well as the current election.

Last year, he was appointed co-chair of the President's Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition.
