 Police in Los Angeles are hunting for a woman who is suspected of stabbing to death a Metropolitan Transportation Authority worker after an argument at a busy downtown train station. 

The LAPD said the fatal attack took place at 10.46pm on Friday at the 7th Street/Metro Center subway station.

According to police, a female passenger believed to be between 25 and 35 years old got into a 'verbal dispute' with the unnamed Los Angeles County MTA worker on a Red Line train.

The attack took place shortly before 11pm on Friday at he 7th Street/Metro Center subway station in downtown Los Angeles

The argument took a violent turn when the woman 'armed herself' and stabbed the subway worker in the chest, reported KCAL.

She was caught on surveillance video getting off the train while pushing a neon-green bicycle.

The victim called for help, and paramedics arrived and rushed him to LA County -USC Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead from his injuries less than 40 minutes later.

Metro spokesman Rick Jager has not released the name of the slain worker pending the notification of next of kin.

Anyone who spots the suspect in the killing on the Red Line is asked to call police and to not approach her because she is considered armed and dangerous

Metro Chief Executive Phil Washington said in an email to employees that the victim had worked at MTA for more than 18 years, most recently in the rail operations division, according to Los Angeles Times.

Police are now looking for the suspect in the fatal stabbing, who is to be considered armed and dangerous.

The woman, described as possibly white or Hispanic, was last seen wearing a black tank top and matching tights, and pushing her distinctly colored bike. Screenshots released by the LAPD show the suspect with her long black hair parted in the middle.

Anyone who sees the wanted woman is being urged to call the LAPD’s Central Bureau homicide detectives at (213) 486-8700 and to not approach her.
