Not all police need military gear. All police need oversight by non-police agencies. If they need to take stronger actions, they can call in county... state... the National Guard... the actual military. But they don't; they want to cosplay soldiers and act with autonomy. Defund the police means putting them where they should be... not over-equipped, definitely answerable to non-police.
