An Alabama assisted living facility worker has been fired and a police investigation launched after a woman posted a disturbing video to social media showing her laughing in the face of a recently deceased resident and poking her in the eye.
The video, captured inside The Brennity Senior Living Center in Daphne shows a recently deceased elderly woman, who has her mouth open and eyes closed, lying under a blanket.
The silent clip is being filmed by a female worker dressed in dressed in scrubs, with a mask hanging from her ear, who is shown poking the deceased woman in the face.
The woman is then seen appearing to laugh in the face of the dead resident, before opening her eyes and then poking one of her eyeballs, FOX10 reported.

In the graphic video, the woman continues to poke and interfere with the body and then smiles back at the camera, lifting her own eyelid and laughing.
It’s unclear when the video, which surfaced Tuesday, was captured. The worker shown in the video has not been identified publicly but she has since been fired.
It’s reported that the worker first posted the image to social media, before later removing it.
In a statement, executive director of The Brennity, Erin Thompson, confirmed that the video ‘was recorded by one of our associates at the Brennity at Daphne.’
‘First and foremost, we find the actions in this video to be completely unacceptable, inappropriate and not in line with our Resident First philosophy that we strictly uphold at our communities,' Thompson said.
‘We can confirm that this associate is no longer with Sagora Senior Living [Brennity’s parent company],’ she added, ‘as we will not tolerate behavior like this.’
Thompson went on to offer her ‘thoughts and prayers’ to the family members and other loved ones of the resident depicted in the harrowing video.
'We believe that this story is not a matter of public interest and out of respect to this resident’s family, we ask for privacy during this sensitive time,' the statement continued.

The Brennity provides assisted living, as well as intensive services for residents with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.
The Daphne Police Department confirmed that it has taken a report detailing the incident and is currently investigating.
The department, however, said details of that report won’t be made public until it has been approved and properly redacted.
Thompson said the facility is ‘working closely with investigators and local authorities as they handle the situation.’
