Michelle Obama shared a touching tribute to her husband, former President Barack Obama, on Father's Day. 
The former first lady posted a throwback photo of Barack embracing their two daughters, Malia and Sasha, on Instagram on Sunday.   
'Thank you for the way you love our girls—and all the young people in this country, no matter who they are or where they come from,' she wrote in the caption. 
'We feel your warmth and generosity today and everyday. Happy Father's Day, Barack!' 
The post garnered more than 1.5 million likes within five hours of when it was posted as commenters expressed their affection for the former president.

Michelle paid tribute to Barack in the caption of the post, which received more than 1.5 million likes within five hours of when it was first posted

The old photo appeared to have been taken at least a decade ago, around when Barack, now 58, was first elected in 2008.   
Barack is seen laughing as he pulls Malia, now 21, in for a hug. His other arm is wrapped around the shoulders of Sasha, now 19. 
Michelle and Barack are known for sending sweet social media messages to each other on holidays, often sharing snapshots from their nearly three decades together.

Earlier in the weekend Michelle recognized dads worldwide in a post promoting the Footprints Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to adolescent girls' education and health. 
She shared a video in which Footprints founder Eric Mlambo read out a letter to his own daughter about how how she inspires his work for all girls.  
'This #FathersDay weekend, I'm celebrating dads around the world who are doing everything they can to give their children the opportunities they deserve,' Michelle wrote in the caption.

Barack's successor Donald Trump also received an outpouring of love from his own family on Sunday. 
The current president's children each shared sweet messages to their father, with Ivanka leading the way on Twitter.  
'Happy Father's Day to my dad and to all the devoted and loving father's out there! Today is for you!' Ivanka wrote in the caption of a snap which showed her father holding her has a baby, decked out in ski gear on a snowy hill. 
Donald Trump Jr followed suit sharing a series of images including one beaming with his father in the Oval Office. 
'Happy Father's Day to all the dads that out there that take the time to do it right! Anyone can be a father it takes time and work to be a dad,' he wrote.   
Brother Eric Trump shared a photo of the family as children smiling on a staircase with their parents on Twitter, writing: 'Happy Father’s Day Dad. We are all so proud of you and we love you very much!' 
First Lady Melania Trump shared a general message celebrating all the fathers in the country, but notably did not mention her own husband. 
'Today we celebrate all fathers for their love, dedication & wisdom to help guide our youth to help them succeed & grow. Happy #FathersDay!' she said, sharing an image of a yellow rose.
