President Donald Trump met with Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro at Mar-a-Lago this weekend.
The two had dinner with Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner and White House officials on Saturday night.

Brazilian News La Razon reported on the meeting between the two leaders.

The president of the United States, Donald Trump, and his counterpart from Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, met over the weekend to discuss bilateral relations and, especially, common policies regarding Venezuela. The meeting took place in Mar-a-Lago, the luxurious residence that Trump owns in Florida , and where he usually takes refuge to decompress from day to day in Washington. «He has done a fantastic job. Brazil loves it and the US loves it , ”Trump told the press about Bolsonaro in a brief joint appearance.
When asked if he will maintain the tariffs on Brazilian steel and aluminum, Trump said that the countries have a good relationship and that the US helps Brazil and that “friendship is probably stronger now than ever.” When the reporters insisted on the tariffs Trump settled “without making any promises. No promises”.
At the table, according to Bolsonaro, there were issues of commercial cooperation and defense. But the centerpiece on the agenda was the explosive situation that a free-falling Venezuela is going through, while the human rights defense agencies denounce its systematic violation, the democratic quality beacons place the oil country in the club of the most failed states and autocratic and economic indicators testify to a crisis of absolutely colossal dimensions.
In a brief joint statement, the White House reported that “ President Trump and President Bolsonaro reiterated their countries’ support for democracy in the region, including the interim president of Venezuela, Juan Guaidó, and the Venezuelan National Assembly democratically elected while they work to restore constitutional order in Venezuela ». They also supported the holding of free and democratic elections in Bolivia.
Trump, in fact, invited the tribune of guests of honor to Guaidó on the occasion of his recent and triumphant speech by the State of the Union, while this month Bolsonaro removed his Brazilian diplomats from the country. The relationship between the two leaders is as fluid as ever. Trump has never hesitated to support the southern populist. Just a year ago the White House granted the placet to Eduardo Bolsonaro, son of the Brazilian president , who eventually gave up his destiny to lead the Socioliberal Party in Congress. Carlos and Flavio, others of Jair’s offspring, have also followed the paternal path to pursue politics.
