The Crime Prevention Research Center released a report Wednesday revealing that nearly 19 million Americans have concealed carry permits — an increase of 1.4 million compared to the same time last year.

What are the details?

The year-over-year increase is approximately 8 percent.
The Crime Prevention Research Center is a non-profit organization that bills itself as a "research and education organization" that is "dedicated to conducting academic quality research on the relationship between laws regulating the ownership or use of guns, crime, and public safety."
Alabama comes in first place, with nearly 26 percent of its gun owners holding concealed carry permits.
Indiana comes in second with 18 percent, and South Dakota in third at 16 percent.
The report states, "Sixteen states have adopted constitutional carry, meaning that a permit is no longer required, [but] some people in these states still choose to obtain permits so that they can carry in other states that have reciprocity agreements with their states."
“As more and more states decide not to require permits," the report continues, “the number of people who can legally carry a handgun will increasingly outpace the number of permit holders."
The report also finds that 7.3 percent of Americans have concealed carry permits in the United States.
"Outside the restrictive states of California and New York, about 8.75% of the adult population has a permit," the report adds.
