A U.S. attorney who served under President Barack Obama tweeted on Sunday a claim that Fox News wouldn’t show Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s testimony before Congress. The attorney posted a follow-up tweet that said she had been joking and didn’t expect anyone to take it seriously.
The Washington Examiner reported that Joyce White Vance served as the U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Alabama during the entirety of Obama’s presidency, between 2009 and 2017. She is also an MSNBC contributor.
"Fox isn't showing Mueller's testimony Wednesday. Trump is afraid of what will happen if his base gets to hear Mueller's testimony for themselves," Vance tweeted before deleting it.
Fox, like every other major network, will show Mueller’s testimony. The network said Monday it would start covering the hearing at 8 a.m. on Wednesday. Mueller’s testimony begins at 9 a.m. that day.
As Townhall noted, Vance’s tweet didn’t seem to be a joke, with horror author Stephen King repeating the claim in his own tweet, sarcastically mocking Fox’s motto “Fair and Balanced.”

Several hours after Vance tweeted the rumor, she posted a follow-up tweet about her “goofy sense of humor.”
“Y’all, a kind friend pointed out my goofy sense of humor doesn’t always translate onto Twitter. I know most of you get the irony by now. It will be interesting to see Fox’s coverage in light of Trump’s statement he won’t be watching the hearing,” she tweeted.
In another follow-up tweet, Vance explained why she deleted her joke.
“I’ve deleted an earlier tweet I intended ironically, but that some took as factual regarding Fox news coverage of Mueller’s testimony. My apologies to anyone I confused. I don’t like to delete tweets but that seems a better course than unintentionally misinforming people,” Vance said.

Mueller will testify before the House Judiciary and Intelligence committees regarding his investigation into whether President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign colluded with Russia to win the election and whether Trump obstructed justice while the investigation was taking place. The investigation was concluded on March 22, and the redacted report was released to the public on April 18. It found no evidence to conclude the Trump campaign colluded with Russia and made no recommendation to indict Trump for obstructing an investigation into a nonexistent crime.
Democrats now want to question Mueller with TV cameras present. Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), ranking member on the House Intelligence Committee, suggested last week that Democrats have been working with Mueller behind the scenes to craft a “narrative,” which is why his testimony was pushed back one week.
This will also give Republicans a chance to question Mueller, potentially leading to questions about why Mueller neglected to include information that Natalia Veselnitskaya was working with Fusion GPS founder Glenn Simpson when she met with Trump’s associates at the infamous Trump Tower meeting, or why Mueller implied Konstantin Kilimnik had ties to Russian intelligence but left out the fact that Kilimnik was also a “sensitive” intelligence source who had worked for the U.S. State Department for years.
