19 teenage Indian students commit suicide after software error botches exam results.

Maithili, a second-year intermediate student from Bommalaramaram on the outskirts of Telangana’s state capital of Hyderabad, dreamed of building her career in the field of medicine, but ended up killing herself in her house early Wednesday.
The student, who fared extremely well in her first-year exams failed to get even the passing marks in subjects like Physics and Zoology as per the results published by the Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education (BOIE) on 18 April. Blaming the board, her parents said she was a bright girl hoping to get into the medical stream with a decent score in her intermediate exams.
In the last 24 hours, three students have taken their lives, taking the toll to 19 in Telangana in the span of one week. According to the parents, what has caused this tragedy is an error on the part of the software solutions firm, Globarena Technologies Private Limited, which had been engaged by the intermediate board in September 2017 for development of software to process admissions, pre-examination, post-examination results, including OMR (optical mark recognition) scanning.
Students and parents squarely blamed the firm for the blunders that found their way into tabulation and preparation of marks memos after evaluating the answer sheets.
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) general secretary Manava Roy alleged that the government failed to initiate action against the software firm due to the clout it enjoys with TRS working president and Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s son KT Rama Rao.
Former TRS MLC Pathuru Sudhakar Reddy said the allegations linking KTR with the software firm were baseless. The agency with the lowest bidding was shortlisted by the intermediate board for the project through a proper tender process, he said.
The Telangana government constituted a three-member expert committee to probe the allegations of goof-ups in results.
Students backed by Opposition parties, youth, women and rights groups resorted to forcing themselves into Pragati Bhavan, the official residence of the chief minister, and the office of the Board of Intermediate Education, and have courted arrests in the last few days.
Under the shadow of police
The BOIE office at Nampally is flocked with hordes of students seeking to question goof-ups that have caused a state-wide furore, but it continues to have a presence of gun-toting police.
Rajani, mother of a Class-12 student, complains, “My daughter scored 85 percent in all the subjects in the second year, but failed in Mathematics”. The rules will not permit her to seek improvement by appearing for supplementary exams as she has failed in a subject. Her pleas for revaluation, which will enable her to take the national level entrance tests for admission, go unheard in the BOIE office.
Rajani said there are instances of awarding marks for students who were absent in the exams.
“A student identified as Naveena, who topped in her first-year exam, failed in Telugu in the final year. After re-verification, she got 93 per cent in the particular subject,” said S Ramesh, a student leader.
Telangana had registered eight suicides in 2018. In the year 2017, both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana witnessed more than 50 suicides by students in a span of two months (September-October).
M Madhusudan Reddy, president of Telangana Government Junior Lecturers Association, sees a marked difference in the nature of suicides being reported now when compared to those in the previous years. “The rank war and subsequent stress induced by college managements and parents led students to commit suicides in the past. This time, it is the blunders of the software firm that left a trail of suicides,” says Reddy.
What is the trigger?
The score in the plus two exams give the students seeking to take admissions in engineering and medical streams through Engineering, Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Test (EAMCET) due on 4 May, an additional weightage of 20 percent. Time is running out for the other entrance tests such as national eligibility cum entrance test (NEET), Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and the other national-level screening tests. But the goof-ups seem to be upending the apple cart for many dream-chasing students. The website of the intermediate board inviting applications online for revaluation of papers crashed, heightening worries of the students.
Around 10 lakh students took the Class 12 exam in February 2018, and nearly 3.5 lakh failed, making it a gigantic task for the board to conduct supplementary exams for such a large number of students.
Who is to blame?
Education minister Jagadeeswar Reddy criticised the Opposition parties for trying to gain political mileage out of a sensitive issue pertained to the lives of scores of students.
Globarena, currently under the scanner, is facing a cheating case in Andhra Pradesh following a complaint lodged by its client Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University-Kakinada for allegedly delivering substandard services and the case is pending investigation in Sarpavaram police station in East Godavari district.
Up to the academic year-2017-18 (March, 2018 examination) the BOIE used to engage the Centre of Good Government (CGG), a state-run agency, for data processing and the result processing was entrusted to private agencies with a good standing. Later, Globarena became a sole software provider for the board.

  1. The real shame is so much of what passes for education is actually programming, brainwashing and endoctrination.

  2. You see, this is an shame, as an teacher my self, its an f..... discrace, not for the students, but for the bloody institution education have become, its an riddicilous farse, when they can do whatever they want, hide behind walls of been official, in an nation corrupt to the core, my hart goes to the students.
Second, one day, morons we must end this freak show called education, to have an tution during an year i see it much more vitale to be there, short tests, to control, because I know one thing, most students forget everything anyway, that number isnt reported but is maissive and to what extent do it pay us all to have an rigid idiotic byroCrautic system that benefits the institution alone and nobody else, incl the work life the encounter after an so called education.

Third, when an studuent is going thru an entire year, with average on 85 %, even when this person died right before an the test, the one test to deside everything, to me that one test is stupid and dont reflect the diversity an education should have because of the stress induced time frame, that person have pased, never doubt that, and I bet, when the average score is this high, she/he will also be able to remeber better whatever they where teached its basic f..... learning.
Most education have never the less to much dead weight attached, most math if echoing the previos level, and could if not highly nessesery be removed or made lesser important, after all, they have the basics from before and in many issues the math never comes into play, compared to an process tech, where everything is an math issue.
    Etc, etc, etc.

We all maybe know about an ingenior, no matter what, always uses years to come into and be luke warm with whatever they intend to work with, I have seen them all.
hehe, some had to be wipped in plase and humbled down with some good old fasion shit suffeling.

This goes to our country as well.
The present level dont impress me at all and I pity the students whom have to suffer under an regime made by rotten f....
