Tax filing season is upon us, and Democrat Rep. Bill Pascrell Jr. is taking an approach that’s been used by other Dems to try and fool people:
If you’re filing your taxes and got no refund, just remember: republicans gave the super rich and big business $1.5 trillion in tax cuts. That’s where your refund went.

Yeah, nice try, but no:
This is completely untrue. The “refund” went back into people’s paychecks throughout the year instead of sitting with the government as an interest free loan.

A member of the House Ways & Means Committee (the Committee that writes tax laws!) has absolutely no idea how income tax withholding works.
That or he’s being embarrassingly dishonest.

Unfortunately he (and other Dems in Congress) don’t care. They’ll keep pushing that BS.
Sometimes I debate whether these people are dishonest or just stupid, and then I realize I don't have to choose.

Now that you are getting into financial planning, will you be recommending that we all overpay our utility bills so we can get a "refund" at the end of the year?

Actually, jackhole, if you get $0 refund or OWE the government, that's a *good* thing. That means you didn't loan them a giant chunk of YOUR OWN DOLLARS interest free for a year or more

Come on. You look at your total tax burden year over year, not your refund. Second, Republicans admittedly did not spend as much time as they should have talking about the benefits of putting money back in the productive sector of the economy.

TFW you don’t know what withholding is.

Dude, do you actually file a tax return? Doesn't your employer require you to fill out a W-4 TELLING THEM HOW MUCH TO WITHHOLD? A refund would be based on this as well as your effective tax rate. Your crazy is showing. https://twitter.com/BillPascrell/status/1098752401107046400 …

And naturally other Dems love what Rep. Pascrell had to say:
I see @SenatorMenendez retweeted this completely ridiculous and false claim

Of course he did, it fits the b.s. narrative.

They’re so predictable.
US tax laws are progressive; The higher your salary, the higher the percentage of tax you pay. Inflation increases salaries. Increased salaries increase not only the amount of tax owed, but the percentage of salary owed, as well.
