It’s a crystal clear natural spring lake that is light blue.Basically there were separate layers of earth, one being a water bearing gravel between solid bedrock and below soft siltstone. The area has faults, being it is a volcano, and when it shifted under this area, it created a crack allowing water to travel up through fissures. The water came to the top creating an artesian spring which craved out a small lake in the soft siltstone. Its temperature year round is 34 degrees Fahrenheit being it’s filled by melted snow waters.

It located about 250 feet from the Little Crater Lake campground and one of the many great things to visit in the Mt. Hood National Forest.
